We are so glad that you chose to trust us with the care of your child! Waumba Land is the environment for babies through PreK aged children at Athens Church where we partner together with you for the spiritual growth of your preschooler. Our mission in Waumba Land is to create a first impression of our Heavenly Father in such a way that it makes a lasting impression on the heart of a child.
We plan a full hour for your child that includes centers, Bible stories, songs, crafts, games and best of all a small group time for prayer and discussion.
Your toddler through 5 year old will meet in a circle each week in their small group and learn about God in a way that is meaningful and developmentally appropriate to them through hands on activities.
We are equipped to care for the very youngest baby! Many parents start bringing their babies when they are 6 weeks old.
For the 9:30 service, check-in is open from 9:15am to 9:45am.
For the 11:00 service, check-in is open from 10:45am to 11:15am.
We GREATLY encourage parents to come early to make sure that your child is able to be in their same class!
If you arrive past the close of check in, we will do our best to get your child connected in their assigned small group but they might need to attend a different class due to capacity. For security purposes we do not allow parents to check in while children are walking to or from Large Group. Large Group begins at 9.45am and 11.15am.
For the consideration of the classroom dynamic we ask that parents do their best to arrive within the check in times listed above.
When you arrive, come straight to Waumba Land. A team of helpful volunteers will greet you at our Host Team desk. You will fill out a guest registration form and they will get you in our secure system. Every family receives a Family Ministry Key Card when they register. Place this immediately on your key chain. When you return use this to check in at any Family Ministry check in station.
Please notify us of ANY and ALL allergies, medical and/or behavioral special needs on the space provided on the guest registration form. Allergies will be placed on your child’s printed name tag, but please also notify the small group leader.
For children with medical or behavioral specials needs, we pair them with a “buddy” who will be their personal guide to help them have a successful hour. If your child might be in need of a “buddy” please email us at least a week in advance so we can best accommodate their needs.
For your convenience, all snacks are listed outside the classroom doors.
Your child receives a nametag with a unique set of numbers and letters at the bottom that matches a corresponding parent tag. In Waumba Land at the Family Ministry Check In stations you may print as many item tags as you need to label your child’s belongings.
We only allow Waumba children, parents, Athens Church staff and Waumba Land Volunteers on the Waumba Land Hallway. Your Parent Number Sticker will allow you access to the Waumba Land Hallway and are matched with your child’s nametag at check out to ensure safety.
You don’t have to wear them, just keep them close and available!
If we need to contact you for any reason “Waumba” and your parent number will be displayed on the screen in the auditorium.
Also, we will place your cell phone number on your child’s classroom roster and will text you, if applicable for non-emergencies.
If your child is still in diapers, bottle feeding or has allergies to goldfish or Gerber Puffs, please bring a bag with these items labeled with your child’s name. Please keep all toys safe by leaving them at home.
Your child will be placed in an age appropriate small group with carefully trained and background checked Small Group Leaders. By attending the same hour each week your child will make friends and have the same Small Group Leaders and group of children in their room.
We have volunteer to child ratios and maximum capacities that we keep for the safety of your child. We will close a classroom when it reaches its maximum capacity. Capacities range from 12 in our babies rooms to 18 in our PreK rooms. Ratios vary from 3:1 to 5:1.
Everything we teach in Waumba Land centers around three basic truths: God Made Me, God Loves Me, and Jesus Wants to Be My Friend Forever.
We have one Big Idea, song and memory verse all month and have a corresponding Bible Story that changes every week to emphasize the Big Idea.
Our 3 year old through PreK classrooms will participate in “Large Group” for their Bible lesson and singin. This is a full production they will not want to miss!
We have a detailed and specific cleaning process for our toys, tables, hands and rooms. Toys are cleaned between each hour and sanitized after Sunday morning. Our rooms are professionally cleaned every week. Carpets are steam cleaned on a regular basis.
We do not allow our volunteers to wear shoes in our Babies and Toddlers rooms because children are crawling on the floor. Waumba is VERY clean!
Waumba Land is a clean and safe place. We ask all parents to please observe the fever and symptom free for 24 hours rule: “Children who have shown signs of fever, vomiting, or other contagious illnesses should be symptom and fever free for 24 hours before coming to Waumba Land.”
(That means if your child has a fever on Saturday morning, but not on Sunday morning we ask that you please keep them at home with you to help prevent the spread of illnesses and to help build their immune system.)
If we notice your child showing signs of sickness while in Waumba Land we will page you to come get them so they can rest and recover.
YES we do! Just come to the Host Team Desk at the entry of Waumba Land and one of our volunteers will escort you to the Nursing Mom’s room where you can also view the service.
If your child needs to attend the service with you, you are welcome to watch the service with your family in the Gallery or Next Room, if they are available. Please refrain from bringing small children into the auditorium.
